Habitat for Humanity Build in Beaumont, TX

Spent a week working with some great students in Beaumont, TX on a Habitat Build. They gave up their Spring Break to help others in need.

Habitat build in Beaumont, TX

Habitat for Humanity and the RV Care-A-Vanners

Within the Habitat for Humanity organization is a sub-group called the RV Care-A-Vanners. They are folks with RV’s that can travel to Habitat build sites and stay for a couple of weeks to participate on a build. Most of the Care-A-Vanners have building experience and then help those who don’t. The local Habitat affiliate works with local churches to find RV sites for the Care-A-Vanners to stay. Many times the churches have hookups for the RV’s at the church property. That’s what we did for this build.

This particular build was also a Collegiate Challenge week where several university Habitat clubs host a trip during Spring Break to come do a build. We worked with two schools, Florida State and Salem State, and several other Care-A-Vanners during this week. Had a great time helping the students do some framing, painting and general maintenance on several habitat homes.

We always look forward to these builds and so do many others. The well organized ones are sometimes hard to get into and book up many months in advance. That makes it more difficult for our lifestyle since we rarely plan that far in advance. Nonetheless, we do it when we can and we appreciate the opportunity to help out.
