After a slow September, we had a showing on the house. While we were on a photo trip in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula we had a second showing. That night we received an offer!

It was a pretty good offer too so we didn’t want to go back and forth with the buyers. We knew that this late in the year buyers would not be that plentiful. Once cold weather hits in the North, real estate activity goes way down. So we signed the purchase agreement from our hotel room in the U.P. and waited for the sellers acceptance of the minor changes we made to the wording. The next day they signed off on the contract and we had a deal! As with most purchase agreements, there was a contingency for obtaining financing and also a home inspection contingency. As of today, both of those have been met so we are go for closing!

Now comes the hard part. We still have a lot of stuff to get rid of and little time to do it. It’s a good problem to have since we have the sale pending on the house but it really accelerated our plans for the next month. We now have garage sales, tool sales and furniture sales to conduct since we have to get rid of most of our stuff in order to travel full time. We did rent a storage unit for anything we aren’t successful getting rid of by our vacate date. We also have a line on a furnished condo that we plan to move into right after closing as we’re not ready to buy the motor home yet. We need to stick around until spring to work on the sailboat to get it ready to sell and a motorhome in the North country in winter doesn’t work. I talked about that somewhat in the Keels or Wheels post.

So, it’s finally happening. We’re going to be house-less soon and be somewhat location independent. We have a number of travel plans for the next six months and we’ll talk about those in future blogs. Right now though we have one final push to bring this dream to reality. And push we will.
